12 Hr. night shifts mandatory for new employees. You will likely be on that shift for years before you build enough seniority to bid to a day shift. You will likely learn a lot in this job. Not only about the EMS and hospital systems, but also raw skills. You will be forced to work under incredible pressure and be expected to execute when the stakes are high. It is very easy to feel like you belong here. The best part of the job is the sense of comradery you will feel with your partner and coworkers. The hardest part of the job is dealing with work/life balance. This is not a job for someone who wants to spend a significant amount of time with friends and family. Working 12 hour nights, and accruing paid time off at a snail rate (something like an hour or two of PTO for every two weeks worked), you will have to be very dedicated to the job, and able to handle the daily stresses that can come with being in life or death situations all day everyday. This job is great for a lot of people. But for me personally, it took too much of me from everyone/everything else in my life for me to continue working there. I only wish the hours could have been different. One more thing. The high turnover rate can leave you frustrated by the high number of inexperienced employees. In this field, experience matters, a lot. And it s obvious that this company is having a problem with their turnover rate.
